    Effectivement, on se retrouver avec « salter ». Y-a-t-il un code du Grafi Larmoni complet ?

    Je me rends compte d’une chose. J’ai vu pendant des années les « By Order » (mais jamais de « par ordre ») et j’ai toujours compris que cela voulait dire qu’on allait au devant de sérieux ennuis à ne pas suivre « ce conseil ». Je n’ai cependant jamais compris l’origine et l’intérêt de cette expression. « By Order » de qui ?

    En principe cela devrait être “by order of the board”, “by order of the Ministry of Environment” et ainsi de suite. Mais il est un fait qu’à Maurice dans l’affichage public on voit régulièrement “by order” tout court, sans plus de précision quant à l’identité de ceux qui donnent des ordres. Des gens qui ne veulent peut-être pas se mouiller. Un mauricianisme supplémentaire ? (Mais anglophone celui-là…)

    Ailleurs, on peut trouver une indication explicite (en rouge sur ce tableau) quant à la prononciation de la lettre -e : “e is pronounced é”. Dans ce cas, pourquoi ne pas écrire carrément “-é” ?

    Very British, that « by order ». Americans would raise the same question: by order of whom?

    Maybe Brits have a superior sense of (transcendent) order whereas Americans — who have the reputation of frequently challenging central authority when it infringes on what they perceive as their rights — need to know who is ordering them to do this, that or the other.

    However, Google.co.uk hasn’t been able to give me a single example where “by order” is used alone.
