Swazi Royals are not quite models to be followed, but after all no one has to follow a green Martian bus for ever and ever:
Currently King Mswati III of Swaziland has about 15 wives (± 2) and at least 23 children (± 5). Each of his wives has been duly provided with a palace and a BMW.
HIV is rife in Swaziland and today’s life expectancy is 32 years (CIA figures), the lowest in the world.
Last year wife No. 12 was caught having an affair with the Swazi justice minister, who was found hiding under the queen’s bed. The minister was jailed, and I haven’t been able to find out what has happened to him ever since. The adulterous royal spouse was put under permanent House surveillance.
As the New York Times put it in a 2008 article, “in destitute Swaziland, leader lives Royally”. His wives travel in BMWs and sometimes use a plane to go shopping. His father, the previous Swazi king, is said to have had 70 wives, but they travelled by bus, which may be why today there are Royal Swazi buses driving on Martian roads, royal buses being no longer needed in the Kingdom of Swaziland.
